Orange Clogs and Sombreros

With the cold and grey weather that we have had this winter, it has been easy to take things (myself included!) a little too seriously. In search of warmer weather, fun and a little bit of irreverence, I headed to Los Angeles. My friend and fellow yoga teacher, David Romanelli and I were getting together to teach a Yoga & Wine workshop and I had the opportunity to explore the city from David’s particularly fun and irreverent perspective.

My trip started out well as a friend of David’s was able to get a group of us reservations at Mario Batali’s newly opened Osteria Mozza. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Mario Batali, he is the orange-clog wearing, restaurant guru of Iron Chef fame. I was excited to have the opportunity to taste his food in person. We had a mind-boggling array of elegant courses and wines, in the equally elegant dining room. (more…)

Into the Deep Blue

There is a very exciting new trend in the yoga world to combine yoga and surfing into week long retreats. It seems to be a natural fit, since both yoga and surfing incorporate a focus on ‘getting into the flow’ and breath work with a deep respect for nature. I got to experience my own personal version of a yoga and surf retreat a few weeks ago on a girl’s trip to Santa Teresa, a beach on the Pacific side of Costa Rica.

After a long, bumpy car ride from San Jose we arrived in Santa Teresa and immediately found a little casita on the beach with comfy hammocks. We spent the mornings practicing yoga on the sand and swimming while the afternoons were blissfully spent chilling out in the sun and reading, with cold mango batidos in hand. (more…)
